NURTW: We’ll charge you for contempt if… — Southwest Elders tell Baruwa

The Southwest Elders’ Forum of the National Union of Road Transport Workers( NURTW) has threatened to press contempt of court charges against the embattled president of the union, Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, if he should go ahead to convey illegal delegate conference, despite the order of a judge of court of competent jurisdiction which had ruled against it.

The position of the elders is based on a rumour making the rounds that Alhaji Baruwa is planning to hold the illegal delegate conference in Lafia. Nasarawa State.

Speaking on the plans to press charges against Baruwa if he should ignore the court, Pa Samuel Jonah and Alhaji Moshood Amoo, Chairman and Coordinator respectively, stating “that a Industrial court based in Lagos had last July adjourned the case challenging the eligibility of Baruwa to contest till November 29, 2023, with the provision that the parties in the suit should maintain peace and status quo ante bellum until application are heard and determined “

The elders expressed surprised that anybody could be planning to organise illegal conference despite the order and instruction of the Police” we believe it is rumour and it should remain as rumour but if he should try to disobey the  the court and  ignore the directive of the police, we will not hesitate to charge him for contempt “

The elders expressed appreciation to the police for rising to the occasion by thwarting what could have led to breakdown of law and order. They also appealed to the police not to rest on their oars until full and total peace is restored through the enforcement of rule of law.

“Our position is that court order must be respected and no delegate conference until the court hear and determine the suits before them both in Lagos and Abuja.”
