MEN of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ondo state command, on Tuesday, paraded two suspected fraudsters, Olaotan Olaniyi and Owoseni Taiye, who duped unsuspecting HIV victims of over N10m, under the pretence of having the cure for the disease.
Speaking over the arrest of the two suspects, who were arrested in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area, the State Commandant, Pedro Awili Ideba, said the arrowhead of the crime, Awoseni Arisekola, was still at large.
According to him, the two suspected fraudsters were based in Ondo town saying “the suspects have duped many persons of various sums of money amounting to over N10 million.
“The suspects are Olaotan Olaniyi Aged 37 years and- Owoseni Taiye aged 35 years.
The arrowhead of the gang, Awoseni Arisekola, the CEO of MCD films and Records Stores, Ondo is still at large and efforts are in place to apprehend him.
“The gang claims to heal HIV and they also use fetish means to obtain money from victims.”
The command also paraded seven others suspects for various criminal activities ranging from fraud to obtaining by false pretence, rape, theft, vandalism and burglary.
Other suspects arrested by the NSCDC are Oluwagbohunmi Niyi, Oluwole Tosin, Benedict Boniface, Ibitoye Olu Martins, John Ezekiel, Alexander Michael, Bamidele Akinrinlola, and Oluwagbohunmi Niyi.
Ideba explained that one of the suspects, Oluwagbohunmi, specialised in selling lands to different people at a time, defrauding more than 50 people by selling lands to them
He said the suspect was arrested after series of complaints from the victims who on daily basis reported in “our office on Monday 9th of April to testify on the fake lands sold to them at different times at different amounts with the fake receipts issued to them.
He said the suspect was arrested on Friday 4th April 2018 at St, Luke’s primary School road, Akure,
Another suspect, Benedict Boniface was also paraded for stealing transformer cables in front of the Government House in Alagbaka.
Officers of the NSCDC on duty at the Government House reportedly arrested him on March, 28. He is being detained in order to ascertain the buyers of the stolen cables.
The State Commandant, however, assured members of the public of the Command readiness to combat crime in the state and said the command has been “working tirelessly round the clock to ensure Ondo State is rid of crime and criminal activities.
He adviced “criminal elements to take to their heels because Security agencies in Ondo State will no longer condone criminal activities.
