The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has refuted claims that Local Government chairmen seeking re-election have been directed to resign ahead of the 2025 council elections.
The party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, dismissed the report as false in a statement on Monday, describing it as fake news meant to mislead the public and party members.
He said, “Our attention has been drawn to a false directive purportedly issued by the Lagos State Chairman of APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, to incumbent Council Chairmen, who intend to seek re-election to resign from their offices.

“We want to make it abundantly clear that there is no iota of truth in the publication, as it was twisted to suit the interest of the publisher.”
Oladejo clarified that the only directive from the party applied to APC Local Government party chairmen aspiring for elective positions.
He explained that such individuals must resign to avoid being both contestants and umpires.
“The local government party chairmen, who double as aspirants in the coming elections, for emphasis, will be required to resign their current positions when the guidelines are released.
“We wish to enjoin party members and the general public to refrain from peddling misleading information that can heat the polity,” he added.
The APC spokesperson urged party members and the public to avoid spreading misleading information capable of causing unnecessary tension.
