Nigeria’s Meteorological Agency (NiMet) alerted the public of an imminent dust haze, which may cause reduced visibility due to suspended dust from the source region.
With winds favouring dust-haze propagation, NiMet in a statement signed by the general manager, of public relations, Muntari Yusuf Ibrahim, highlighted the risk in Northern parts.
According to Nimet, stations in the source region report visibility between 800m and 6000m, with Chad expected to experience poor visibility in the next 24 hours.
Due to strong winds, dust suspension will reduce visibility in states like Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Potiskum, and Maiduguri within 24 hours.
NiMet advises the public to take precautions against suspended dust, especially people with respiratory ailments. The current weather poses health risks, it says.
Airline operators have been urged to stay informed with NiMet’s weather reports for effective planning in their operations.
The agency however reassured of regular weather monitoring while pledging timely updates when necessary.
