Valuable items like grinding machines, motorcycles, sewing machines, mattresses, blankets, bedsheets and others were on Wednesday distributed as relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across the local governments’ areas of Osun State.
The items which were made available by a Federal government agency, Nigerian Maritime Administration And Safety Agency (NIMASA), were distributed to the beneficiaries by the representatives of the Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola at the occasion.
Speaking at the event which took place at the back of Osun State Environmental And Management Agency (OSEMA) Office located at the premises of the state Secretariat, Abere in the state, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh, charged the beneficiaries to make use of the items given to them judiciously to be able to be more productive in the immediate environments.
Represented by his Deputy-Director, Dr. (Mrs) Odunayo Ani, the Director-General stated that, “the action and intention of NIMASA in providing these enormous materials for the betterment of Internally Displaced Persons cannot be overemphasized because it will go a long way in alleviating their suffering and bringing smiles to the faces of suffering masses in this state and we cannot thank you enough in this regard.”
“I also wish to express my appreciation to the state government, and in particular our amiable Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola ably represented by the secretary to the State government (SSG), Elder Wole Oyebamiji here seated, for the wonderful works he has been doing since his assumption of office as the Executive Governor of this State, and it’s our prayer that God will continue to guide him aright.”
“Some of the Cardinal points of NIMASA is capacity building, so by bringing things for people to use in making money like the bike, grinding machine, sewing machine we are simply saying, we are not just given you fish we are also teaching you how to fish so that you can reproduce and then help your family and then we also brought food items.”
“We brought things that people can use in their homes, like the people that are displaced, you know they need clothing, they need mattresses we have brought all those things just to support you know. The support is basically for our people to the Osun State government.”
“The number of beneficiaries is subject to the SEMA, but for the number of things we brought are so much.
“NIMASA is the creation of the federal government and NIMASA is not just socially responsible because we are a federal government agency, we are socially responsible because it is wealth in our people when they are okay that we can flourish like it is said, I am from Osun State and I am in NIMASA.
In his speech, the representative of the governor, Wole Oyebamiji, appreciated NIMASA and its representative, Dr Mrs. Ani and his team for the flag off and presentation of relief materials to the Osun State on behalf of the internally Displaced Persons (IDP).
“While thanking the NIMASA for the provision of these enormous materials, aimed at assisting the Internally Displaced Persons in our state, I also wish to use this medium to reiterate the commitment of the present administration under the able leadership of His Excellency, Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola of this state towards effective and efficient disaster management through public enlightenment and campaign disaster risk reduction workshops production and transmission of jingles on electronic media, and updating of a contingency response plan.”
