The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has joined other corporate bodies and eminent Nigerians to congratulate the entire management of African Newspapers of Nigeria and the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo family on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Tribune Newspapers.
Speaking on behalf of the body, the Acting President of NGE, Mustapha Isah, described the celebration as historical, as it makes Tribune the longest-surviving privately-owned newspaper in the country, which, no doubt, testifies to the grand vision of its founder, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as well as the tenacity and steadfast devotion of its workers, both past and present.
According to the release signed by Isah, the Guild expressed its delight to be part of the momentous occasion, especially with its members being in the vanguard of the generations of journalists whose unrelenting commitment to the core values of the organization has kept it waxing from strength to strength over seven decades.
“In an industry with a very high mortality rate of newspapers and magazines, the Guilds wishes to congratulate the Tribune family for this uncommon grace of longevity. We pray that the fervor and vivacity that have helped to build brand Tribune from its infancy would neither wane nor fade, now and in the years to come.
“We wish to especially commend the Tribune group for, at all times, upholding the finest tenets of professionalism, ethics and media excellence. The Guild takes the liberty of this euphoric moment to thank Nigerian Tribune for always being a worthy partner with us, essentially during the annual conferences and biennial conventions,” the release stated.
