Nigeria @61: Let’s reflect on our past to find solution to our problems, says Bauchi speaker

Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Abubakar Y Suleiman has said that Nigerians must reflect on the struggles and sacrifices made by the founding fathers in order to find solutions to the many problems bedevilling the country.

In a congratulatory message to the people of Bauchi State and the country at large to commemorate the 61st anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly explained that “our nationalists sacrificed their lives for the country, fought for our independence and charted a promising development map for the country.”

Abubakar Suleiman added that “However, along the line of our growth, the country is bedevilled with so many problems like civil war, ethnic and religious crises, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping, which slowed down our growth and development.”

He also said that “We must look back and reflect on the path the nationalists put our country before and after the independence. We must imbibe their spirit of patriotism, selflessness and sacrifice.

“We don’t have any country but Nigeria, therefore we must do everything possible to ensure it attains the highest level of development, stability, unity and peace,” the Speaker advocates.

Abubakar Suleiman further stated that despite the challenges, Nigeria’s independence has brought a lot of blessings especially in infrastructural development, agriculture, human resources, economy and many sectors of human endeavour.

He saluted the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad for the unprecedented transformation he embarked upon in the state which gives the state a new look.

He assured the people of the state that the Assembly will continue working hand in hand with the executive arm to take development to all nook and crannies as contained in a statement by Abdul Ahmad Burra, Spokesperson to the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly.
