The reports in the newspapers that the Super Falcons have not been paid their allowances and bonuses after their successful tournament in neighbouring Cameroon is truly disturbing. The players won their eight CAF African Women’s Championship (AWCON) after beating Cameroon on their own soil.
It was reported in the media that the players were owed eight months’ allowances and bonuses. Why did the NFF not ensure that the allowances were made ready before Cameroon 2016 ended?
Why is it that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) always tells funny stories whenever players demand their allowances? How can we expect athletes to put in their best in sports tournaments when we are not ready to treat them right?
Apart from the fact that the players laboured to bring glory to Nigeria, this is Christmas season when they are expected to celebrate with their families and friends. How can they do this when they are yet to receive their dues from the Nigerian Football Federation?
Or could it be that the players are being treated in this horrible manner because they are female?
I call on NFF to pay these players their wages now because they have truly earned them.
