The Commander of 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Muktar Adamu, has charged media professionals to uphold the ethics of their profession by being fair, objective and factual in their reports, saying negative reportage of activities of the military usually dampens the morale of officers.
Adamu, who made this charge during the visit of the executive members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Ondo State chapter in his office in Akure, also warned against “spreading fake news that could dampen the morale of our troops.”
He appealed to journalists to ensure their reports on military activities they covered should be devoid of unfairness, saying that the military draws courage from the support of the citizens in delivering their duties effectively.
According to him, negative reportage of military activities usually douse the morale of officers but called on journalists to ensure accuracy in wherever information they are publishing in such a way that it would not undermine the national security system.
The Army boss disclosed that there’s synergy between the Army and other security agencies in the state in ensuring the safety of life and property by checking crimes and other social vices.
He described women journalists in the state as active in ensuring the voice of women are heard, promising them Army’s unflinching support for the association.
The Chairperson, Ondo NAWOJ, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi sought the support and cooperation of the brigade in ensuring cordial working relationships.
Commending the Commander on the development of the command, the NAWOJ chairperson promised him that the Association was ready to partner with the command.
Top-ranking officers of the Artillery and the executive members of Ondo State NAWOJ were present at the meeting.
