The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has met with the Nigerian Army to strategise on how to improve security in Anambra State.

This is coming on the heels of reports of cult killings in the Anambra State capital, Awka and kidnapping by suspected herdsmen in Ukwulu, a community in Dunukofia Local Government Area, also within the state capital territory.

Public Relations Officer for the NSCDC, Anambra State Command, SC Okadigbo Edwin disclosed the partnership in a press statement in Awka, on Wednesday.

He said the resolve was made during a courtesy call by the state commandant of the corps, Mr Olatunde Maku, to the Commander, 302 Artillery Regiment (302 AR) Nigerian Army, Onitsha, Anambra State, Col. M. B. Abubakar.

Maku, who sought the collaboration of the Army to tackle the insecurity in Anambra, said: “Most of the confidence we have as NSCDC personnel is as a result of the Nigerian Army, you remember when I resumed my tour of duty, I saw the existing relationship between all security agencies and I keyed into it.

“I am proud to say that you have not disappointed me. In executing our core mandate in the protection of Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and infrastructure, we have sought your synergy and I am happy to say, you have without hesitation availed us. Thank you for always partnering with us.

“We commend the Nigerian Army for being a supportive partner to NSCDC in the area of training and retraining of the Corps personnel, joint operations, fight against illegal oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism, illegal oil refining and petroleum black market racketeering.

“We hope that our partnership will help us tackle Sunday crimes in Anambra State.”

Col. Abubakar, in his response, appreciated Maku for the visit and assured him of enhanced support, collaboration and synergy in the overall interests of the nation.

“Actually when I assumed office, I prevailed on the Service Commanders to have a common goal, which must be built on a genuine synergy, I am glad we agreed to work together and till today we have not deviated from it,” Abubakar said.
