The Kogi State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), Alfred Adewumi, has commended the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brigadier General Muhammed Buba Marwa Rtd for promoting officers nationwide to boost their morale in the discharge of their duties.
Briefing journalists in Lokoja, Adewumi said this is the first of its kind in the history of the agency that over 75 per cent of officers of NDLEA were promoted at a stretch.
He noted that since Brigadier General Muhammed Buba Marwa Rtd took over the mantle of leadership in January 2021, NDLEA had recorded large seizures of illicit drugs stressing that, the various commands across the 36 states including the federal capital territory have also been empowered in terms of logistics to enable personnel to discharge their duties more efficiently and effectively.
“This is the first of its kind in the history of NDLEA. Within the space of eight months of his assumption of office as the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, the agency has recorded huge successes in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and drug abuse.”
“About 75 per cent promotion of our officers at one go has never happened since the agency was established. Before now, we had officers that for 15 years were stagnated on one rank. This consummate administrator came and changed the narrative of this negative trend in the service.”
“The famous Lagos State former Military Administrator has proven himself to be someone who’s concerned about the welfare and wellbeing of his staff. Of course, very evidently, he had demonstrated over and over again his competence, capacity and integrity.
“With his achievement within the short period of his stewardship at NDLEA, he has shown that he is poised to take the fight against illicit trafficking and use of drugs to the doorsteps of enemies of our country.”
He faulted some online media reports which suggested that the promotion exercise embarked upon by the present leadership was marred by irregularities, adding that it is fallacy that officers with lower qualifications are being placed over those with higher credentials.
“How will somebody say officers that failed previous promotion examinations are being elevated above others who passed. This is totally far from reality on the ground.
“I am speaking out about this because the writer of the controversial piece claimed to be based in Lokoja but did not avail himself the opportunity of confirming his story from us who are here on the ground before hastily publishing the inaccuracies.
“We are yet to find out the motive behind this write-up, but I am very sure that the writer has a motive that does not appear to support the new energy that has been unleashed to control illicit drug abuse and trafficking in our country.”
