NCWS urges traditional rulers to support women’s quest for self-reliance

THE National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), has appealed to traditional rulers to support women’s quest for self-reliance.

“If the women are self-reliant, they can contribute to economic growth; they will lessen the over-dependence on government,” Mrs Aishatu Isah-Idoma, President, Nasarawa State chapter of NCWS, said on Wednesday.

She made the appeal in Wamba, Nasarawa State, when she led a delegation on a visit to the Emir of Wamba, Alhaji Lawal Musa-Nagogo.

Isah-Idoma emphasised the need to support the demand for farm lands and agricultural inputs that would assist women farmers, as well as credit facilities for those in business.

She also promised that the women would work with the traditional rulers toward promoting peace in their domains, saying that such stability was critical to any development.

The NCWS official called for unity among women, and promised to support and promote the interest of the Nigerian women irrespective of religious or political affiliation.

She said that women had played a very critical role in the growth of the Nigeria society overt time, and promised to mobilise them to support government efforts toward a better Nigeria.

Isah-Idoma challenged women to acquire skills and put them to use so as to further support their families, urging them to strive for more education so as to explore opportunities always available for grasps.

“Education is the bedrock of every society; parents must make it a top priority to offer their children the opportunity to maximise their potential,” she said.

Isah-Idoma appealed to governments at all level to appoint more women into positions to enable them contribute to Nigeria’s growth, saying that many women had proved their worth when challenged to do so.

Responding, Musa-Nagogo commended the society for the visit and urged them to promote peaceful co-existence and mutual tolerance among Nigerians.

“Peace is priceless, non-negotiable and a necessary requirement for the development of any society. Nigerians must embrace it,” he said.

The traditional ruler urged Nigerians to love and respect one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
