The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has denied allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Tribune Online reports that Akpoti-Uduaghan recently accused Akpabio of making sexual advances towards her in his office and residence in Akwa Ibom State.
She further alleged that he frustrated her attempts to raise motions about the Ajaokuta Steel Company in Kogi State because she rejected his advances.
Reacting to the claims on Wednesday as the Senate resumed plenary after a week’s recess, Akpabio dismissed the allegations, asserting that he was properly raised by his late mother.

According to him, he had never harassed any woman at any point in his life and was recognised as Nigeria’s most gender-friendly governor due to his respect for women.
He said, “At no time did I ever harass any woman. I was raised very well by my late single mother, and I have always upheld respect for women. I was even awarded the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”
Akpabio noted that since February 25, he had been inundated with calls regarding the matter and acknowledged the growing discourse on social media.
He, however, urged Nigerians, the media, and social media users to refrain from drawing conclusions, stressing the need to await the court’s decision on the matter.
