THE Chief Missioner of the Nasrul Lahi l Fatih Society (NASFAT), Imam Maruf AbdulAzeez Onike, is scheduled to participate in the Carter Center Human Rights Forum themed “Restoring Faith in Freedom” in the United States of America.
This is coming barely three months after the NASFAT chieftain addressed a United Nations special session on the rights of women.
The Carter Center is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organisation founded in 1982 by a former US president, Jimmy Carter.
The forum, which will be chaired by former President Carter, is scheduled to hold in Atlanta, United States, from 21 July to 24 July, 2018.
The event will witness the participation of human rights activists from 30 countries, women peacemakers working to prevent violent conflicts, international non-governmental organisations, religious leaders resisting repressive politics, influential analysts, authors and select government and UN policy makers.
This year’s forum will provide a platform for in-depth consultations on the most pressing actions that must be taken by governments, civil society, inter-governmental bodies and others to reverse the tide of setbacks for human rights throughout the world.

The participants will focus on three main themes: restoring trust and faith in democratic systems; explaining aspects of economic rights related to land rights, corporate and government accountability for environmental impact, adequate standard of living and accountability for budget priorities; and reinforcing the frontline of human rights and peace.
Additionally, 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the 20th anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights Defenders.
The forum will provide a forum to honour the achievements made so far as well as a timely opportunity for a reflection and rededication to human rights and peace.
