The Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has promised to take action against any contractor found violating the execution of projects or breaching of contractual obligations entered with it.
The executive chairman of the board, Muhammad Musa Dan’azimi, said this at a meeting with the contractors handling Universal Basic Education (UBE) Matching Grant 2022 intervention projects with the management of SUBEB and other education stakeholders at the board’s headquarters in Lafia, the state capital, on Thursday.
Represented by Muhammad Bariki Sameel, Permanent Member 1 of the board, Dan’azimi said the board would not hesitate to revoke any contract found wanting in the area of quality and timely completion as specified in the contract documents.
He also highlighted that the state governor was magnanimous enough to have paid the counterpart fund for 2022 promptly, to promote the education enterprise and make adequate provision of infrastructure for conducive learning environment at the basic level and hence, would not expect anything less than value for money project.
“It, therefore, behoves that the board must reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that contractors adhere to specifications strictly to achieve the desired targets,” he said.
On his part, the Director, Physical Planning, Muhammad Shu’aibu Lakpa, also reiterated the earlier warnings and gave indepth specifications as contained in the bills of quantities.
Lakpa tasked community leaders in the state on the need to take ownership of government projects by ensuring proper maintenance of projects sited in their domains.
Responding on behalf of the contractors, the head of Maga Takarda Nigeria Limited, Muhammad Sulaiman Tunga, appreciated the board’s management for organising such forum and promised on behalf of the other contractors to do the needful.
