THE Nasarawa State government has earmarked the sum of N40 million for the take-off of state health insurance scheme for civil servants in the state.
Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura, disclosed this on Saturday, in Lafia, the state capital, at the opening ceremony of the Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
The Governor, who was represented by the Chairman Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare and Development Agency Adis Mohammed, said a committee had already been set up, which is chaired by the State Commissioner of Health, Daniel Iya to workout modalities for the takeoff of the scheme.
The governor added that, government has concluded plans to build comprehensive primary healthcare centers in all the 13 Local Government Areas of the state in line with best practices around the world.
Speaking earlier, the state chairman of NMA Dr Christopher Edeh, said the three-day workshop organised for its members would help proffer solution to the alarming rate of diseases in the state.
“Our hope is to use this opportunity to review and strategise on tackling various challenges facing healthcare delivery in the state.
He added the association would put machineries in motion to intensify sensitization to members of the public to maintain personal and public hygiene as one of the key prevention measures.
He added that, despite the fact that their members desire to do more to ensure disease eradication, there are certain limitations due to lack of insurance cover, inadequate training among others.
He added that the Nasarawa State government should also offset all outstanding allowances, corrected CONMESS of doctors in the state for optimal service delivery.
