A 35-year-old businessman, Mustapha Abdulrasheed, has told a Grade I Area Court Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), that his sister-in-law’s husband, Ibrahim Isyaku abandoned his wife, Amina Hamisu.
The plaintiff, Amina who has been married to Ibrahim for 12 years, filed for divorce on grounds of lack of care and abandonment.
At the resumption of hearing, the witness, Mustapha said that the plaintiff lived in the village in Kano State, while her husband lived in Abuja.
“The respondent abandoned his wife and children in the village, so her family asked her to join him in Abuja.
“Inspite of Amina relocating, her husband did not change. Her family therefore asked her to return to her older sister’s house.
“When Amina returned to her sister’s house, she was already pregnant and later gave birth to their third child, a boy, but her husband only brought firewood and pasta on credit from a woman.
“Till date, the respondent has not paid for the pasta. His baby is five months old now, Mustapha said.
He added that the respondent disrespects his wife’s parents and begged the court to dissolve their marriage since the husband was no longer interested in it.
The respondent, however, denied the allegations against him and asked the witness if he had ever visited him to back his claims.
The witness in response said that the plaintiff’s sister saw her bad state and asked her to return home so that she does not die.
The judge, Malam Yahaya Sheshi, adjourned the case.
