My life under threat ― Kogi deputy governor

Simon Achuba

THE deputy governor of Kogi state, Simon Achuba, on Sunday raised the alarm over alleged threat to his life following the withdrawal of security men attached to him.

He said the commissioner of police in the state, Hakeem Busari, had last Friday withdrew the security details attached to him thereby putting his life in danger.

Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, the State capital, he said the men were directed to report to the ADC to the governor at the Government House for a briefing.

Achuba said he was about to travel to Ibaji for the botched election last Friday when the directive to the security details came, saying the people were however taken to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) over allegation of gun running.

The embattled deputy governor said the men were later made to make statements at the SARS office.

He said, “They accused my ADC and Orderly of gun running but they denied the allegation. As I am speaking now they are under detention in government. I informed the Commissioner of Police on the situation but till now he has refused to take any action.

“I am a member of the All Progressives Congress, I reported to the national leader of the APC. My impress has been stopped for no reason by the governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

“I live as deputy governor in the house without security, I travelled home without police, my life is in danger.”

The deputy governor also for the first time opened up on the alleged face-off between him and the governor when he admitted that things were not going on well between them.

He said power and water supplies to his office had been cut off by the state government as he presently lives in darkness.

Achuba, therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene and call Busari to order so that his security details can be restored back.

The Commissioner of Police, however, confirmed the story, saying deputy governor had lodged complaints in his office.

He said arrangements would be made for two police officers to be posted to his house, adding that the issue will soon be resolved.
