Shade, in her evidence, said, “I got married to my husband because I believed he would take care of me, but I was met with disappointment.

“He did not pay a dime as my bride price, but he gave me a Quran which he collected back from mè after we fought, and he beat me to a pulp.

“My husband and I lived together in our marriage for four years, and we were blessed with three children whom I had through cesarean operation, but unfortunately, one of them died.

“My husband shattered my life and aborted my dream of running a happy home.

“He daily shirked his responsibility towards me and our children and refused to meet our needs.

“We lived on my salary almost all the time, but despite this, he still beat me.

“He beat me on the 10th day we had our last child and I almost fainted.

“We had a disagreement again 41 days after I put to bed, and he almost killed me as he descended on me with his heavy punches.

“I left his house with our children after this.

“My husband to my chagrin gave my belongings which I left behind to his new wife.

“He gives our children N10,000 monthly for food, which is not enough considering the high cost of living.

“I am solely responsible for our children’s education because my husband refused to show any interest in it.

“I pray the court to grant my husband his prayer of divorce, but grant me custody of our children.

“I also beg the court to make him responsible for their upkeep and also compel him to refund all that I have spent on their education.

“Our children are growing each day and are in need of good food and new clothes.”
