My early music videos were banned from TV over indecency — Tiwa Savage

In a recent interview with BET, popular singer Tiwa Savage reflected on the challenges she faced early in her career upon returning to Nigeria from the United Kingdom to pursue her musical aspirations.

Savage recounted instances where her music videos were deemed too risqué for television, and she was barred from performing at concerts due to her indecent outfit choices.

“When I first moved back, I would turn up at a show and they would say I can’t perform because my outfit was too risqué,” Savage revealed.

“Even some of my first music videos were not played on television because they were considered indecent. I wasn’t even wearing bikinis.”

Despite facing setbacks and online backlash, Savage remained steadfast in her resolve to express herself through her art.

“Despite the setbacks, I was still stubborn. My dresses were getting more revealing. It was just getting worse. They were bashing me online,” she said.

However, she noted that her fanbase continued to grow, leading to a demand for her music and performances.

In addition to her music career, Savage recently unveiled her movie project titled “Water & Garri.”

During a pre-launch press conference at Livespot Entertainment, she disclosed that the inspiration for the movie came to her while she was drunk.

“I said this before, this is an idea I had in my head when I was drunk in my room, and when I brought the idea to my amazing team, they didn’t make me feel stupid. They just said this is a brilliant idea,” Savage explained.
