Muslim professionals under the aegis of ‘No Dull Moment in Islam (NDMI)’ have cautioned the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, against the constant onslaught against the embattled Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Sheikh Teliat Yunus Ayilara.
The group, according to a statement signed by its Coordinator and Secretary, Professor Abdurazaq Kilani and Barrister Mojeed Abolore Oloyede respectively on Friday, alleged that some elements in Ogbomoso with the support of the palace are hell-bent on relegating Islam to the background in Ogbomoso.
The call by the group followed a series of queries issued against the Chief Imam by the traditional ruler including one threatening to review his appointment for alleged violation of his oath of office.
Another query issued on June 10, 2024, ordered the chief imam to disembark from the trip to Saudi Arabia for the holy pilgrimage for not seeking his permission.
The group of professionals described the order as an insult not only to the headship of Muslims in Ogbomosoland but also the entire Muslim ummah in Oyo State.
“Oba Ghandi must stop the harassment of the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, while we request that he withdraw immediately the threat to review the appointment of the Imam.
“We call on the Christian Association of Nigeria and the leadership of The Redeemed Christian Church of God where Oba Ghandi Olaoye was ordained as a pastor to call the monarch to order and tell him to stop his overbearing incursion into the affairs of Muslims in Ogbomosoland,” the statement read in part.
