THE convoy of Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, was attacked at the entrance of the state House of Assembly, on Thursday.
The attack was carried out by protesters who had resumed at the entrance of the assembly complex around 7.00 a.m. to prevent the governor from presenting the last budget of his administration.
The governor, it was gathered, was on an inspection of ongoing work at the International Event Centre, The Dome, before he ran into the protesters who ran after his vehicle on sighting him.
The protesters hurled stones on the coaster bus and the ambulance following the KIA vehicle driven by Mimiko himself, and in the process, the mirror of the side screens of the two vehicles were destroyed.
No one was, however, hurt in the incident.
An official of the state government said the governor was at The Dome to inspect the ongoing project slated for inauguration before the expiration of his tenure on February 24.
“All other vehicles in the convoy have gone but the ambulance, which was the last, was attacked and had part of its side mirror affected.”
“Mimiko asked his security not to harm the protesters. The security operatives had to call for reinforcement from the mobile force and Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) to disperse the protesters.
Speaking on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, confirmed that two vehicles in the convoy of the governor were attacked, adding that the protesters equally attacked policemen deployed in the area to maintain peace.
