A member of a suspected five-man armed robbery gang was on Wednesday gunned down by operatives of the Kwara state command of the Nigeria Police.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the hoodlums, driving in a Toyota Corolla car, had carried out a car-hijack operation in Ogbomoso, Oyo state at about 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, where a Toyota Camry (muscle) was reportedly snatched.
It was also gathered that the suspects, numbering five, divided themselves into two groups, with three in the Toyota Corolla and two inside the Toyota Camry (muscle).
The suspected armed robbers, who were trying to escape to Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, however, met resistance from policemen who reportedly accosted and chased them.
It was gathered that the hoodlums inside the Toyota Corolla escaped the police hunt, while those in the muscle were given hot chase.
A source in the metropolis said that the suspected armed robbers were attacked at Kulende, Zango area of the state capital by police where one of them was shot on the neck.
“He lost consciousness and hit the vehicle against an electric pole. The pole broke into two and the vehicle also hit some shops, damaging many properties. The armed robbers with bullet shots died on the spot while the other occupant escaped. The policemen, who later came cordoned the area”, the source said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ejire Adeyemi-Adetoun, when contacted, confirmed the incident, adding that the investigation is still ongoing.
She said that no arrest had been made.
