Residents of Lugbe in the Federal Capital Territory have witnessed a sharp increase on consumables on the second day of the lockdown ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Food items like garri, a common staple food has increased. Garri which use to sell for N100 per measure now sells for N300.
Harry Chuks said: “I bought a measure on Monday for N150 now it is N300.”
Already a bag of sachet water (pure water) has increased by 50% sachet water which sells for N100 for a bag of 20 now sells for N150 per bag.
Chukwudi Nnayelugo, a resident of Lugbe community on the Airport road said residents of the community are facing harder times since the lockdown.
He said while the residents are at home hunger bites harder and those who sell food are taking advantage of the situation.

Credit card vendors have also increased their sales with N10 extra charge for recharge cards of between N100 and N200.
Elkanah Hosea, an Okada rider who has resorted to selling water said his savings had been deeply affected within the two-day lockdown so far. “People prefer to walk around, nobody is in a hurry to go anywhere. Everyone you are seeing here now will all disperse walking home. Patronage has dropped significantly in this line of business.
“That is why you see me selling water, being a water vendor is an alternative, to stave off eating all my savings, unfortunately, power is not stable to cool the drinks and water.
“Government should help and call off the stay at home order,” he pleaded.
