The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, on Thursday, expressed appreciation to voters in the state for voting overwhelmingly for the party’s candidates during the local government councils election held last Saturday.
This was just as the party attributed its landslide victory at the poll to the PDP campaigns, where they marketed their manifestos and pledged their commitment to the people’s welfare across the 18 local government areas.
Chairman of the State PDP, Dr Anthony Aziegbemi, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, described the election victory as a loud endorsement and a vote of confidence in the PDP administration led by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Aziegbemi said: “We campaigned and sold our manifestoes to the people across the LGAs, 192 Wards, 4519 units in the State.
“And if you don’t campaign, how do you expect to win?
“For the other party, their leader came and only handed the party’s flag to them in Benin City.”
Continuing, the PDP chair said the party will strive to ensure that elected representatives keep to the dictates of transparency, equity, fairness, and justice in the utilization of resources for development for the overall benefit of the people.
He also hailed the State Independent Electoral Commission for “standing upright and shunning all intimidation and blackmail tactics deployed by some enemies of democracy.”
