Lagosians searching for ready alternative to APC ― PDP chairmanship aspirant

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship aspirant for Lagos State chapter in the coming State Congress, Dr Tokunbo Pearse, said he will work hard to reenergize the party, promote unity within the fold and lead it to victory at all levels, if elected into office as chairman, noting that Lagosians were already looking for an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party has scheduled to hold its State Congress for October 16, while the Ward Congress holds, on September 25 and Local Government Congress will come upon October 5, 2021.

Pearse, a former governorship candidate in the state, made this promise while speaking with the Tribune Online, even as he noted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had failed dismally in Lagos, for which reason Lagosians were looking for an alternative.

According to the party chieftain, who promised to relate closely with party stakeholders at all levels, from local, to state, to zonal and National, declared that Lagos PDP under his leadership would ensure that its activities and plans for the state would convince Lagosians to join the fold “as that positive alternative.”

This was as he promised that his new membership drive would be in particular to the young, vigorous and forward-looking people who were committed to a better Lagos, and to restructuring the Nigerian Federation.

“If elected Lagos State PDP chairman, l will work hard to promote party unity. I will relate closely with party stakeholders at all levels, from local, to state, to zonal and National.

“My primary mission will be to re-energise the party, and encourage our members to win electoral offices from Local Government offices to House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governor,” he said.

“The APC has failed dismally in Lagos, for which reason Lagosians are looking for an alternative. Our activities and our plan for the state will convince Lagosians to join our Great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) as that positive alternative,” he added.

“Our appeal for new members will be in particular to the young, vigorous and forward-looking people who are committed to a better Lagos, and to Restructuring the Nigerian Federation,” he added further.

Pearse said he would achieve all these by invigorating Lagos PDP with regular activities such as seminars, conferences, and Award ceremonies, adding that these events would take place in different Local Government Areas (LGAs) in order to ensure the participation of members at all levels.

“I will invigorate the party with regular activities such as seminars, conferences, and Award ceremonies. These events will take place in different Local Government Areas in order to ensure the participation of members at all levels,” the chairmanship aspirant said.

Speaking further, Pearse lamented the inability of the party to own its own secretariat, saying such sounded unbelievable, promising to make members throughout the state proud by setting up a 1 billion naira Building Fund for the purpose of purchasing or building the State Secretariat for PDP.

“It sounds unbelievable, but the party does not own a State Secretariat in Lagos. I will make PDP members throughout the state proud by setting up a 1 billion naira Building Fund for the purpose of purchasing or building our own State Secretariat,” the party chieftain said.
