A sociopolitical group, the Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), over the weekend in Ilorin, Kwara State, took delivery of 6,000 bags of 10-kilogram garri palliatives for free distribution to indigent members of the public.
SWAGA was one of the leading support groups that advocated for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency.
A patron of the group, Justice Lambo Akanbi (rtd), who owns a firm that produces various agricultural products, donated the palliatives meant for the 16 local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the event, Justice Akanbi said the group was pleased to align with President Tinubu in addressing poverty among the underprivileged in the country.
“The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated. Many families are struggling to meet their daily needs.
“Together, we can create a better future for everyone. As we launch this palliative program, let us remember that this is just the beginning.

“We must continue to work hand in hand, leveraging our resources to reach more families in need.
“Let us encourage others to join this noble cause so that our efforts can reach every corner of our society.
“I sincerely call on all friends of this administration to emulate our modest gesture by playing the role of change agents,” he said.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of SWAGA, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms have set Nigeria on the path to prosperity and development.
Senator Adeyeye, who described the removal of the petrol subsidy as a bold and courageous step taken by President Tinubu, added that successive administrations before him considered the idea but lacked the courage to implement it.
The former minister expressed optimism that, by next year, “Nigerians will feel the effects of Tinubu’s economic reforms. He has restructured the country’s economy.
“Many trucks transporting goods will have been converted to compressed natural gas (CNG). By then, a lot of people will be using gas to power their vehicles.
“Dangote will need to export 80 percent of his petrol production out of Nigeria. Better days are ahead for this country.”
Senator Adeyeye praised Tinubu for steering Nigeria away from the brink of collapse.
“When he took over as president on May 29, 2023, Nigeria was in dire straits. Seventy percent of the country’s budget was used to service debt before his assumption of office.
“Nigeria was borrowing money to pay civil servants’ salaries.
“The issue of fuel subsidy removal started during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure. No government before Tinubu had the courage to remove it.
“Some of them were afraid to remove it because they did not have good intentions. Tinubu, with his good intentions, removed it to save Nigeria.
“Today, Nigeria uses just over 60 percent of its resources to service debts. The country can now pay civil servants without borrowing. Nigeria is no longer relying on ‘ways and means.’ It is utilizing its revenue to meet its needs. Nigeria is now on the right path to development,” he said.
The senator commended Justice Akanbi (rtd) for his humanitarian gesture, saying, “We are highly impressed by your decision to carry out this humanitarian act through SWAGA.”
