A group of opinion leaders in the Kwara South chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for transparency and fairness in the conduct of the forthcoming senatorial primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Sunday, the spokesperson of the group, Engineer Usman Alabi, appealed to party leaders and officials handling the exercise to ensure that the process remains credible and democratic in order to preserve the unity and strength of the APC in the state.

The stakeholders described the forthcoming Senate primary scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026, as a crucial exercise that would determine future stability and electoral success of the party in the Kwara South district.

The group, which said that it was important for party leaders to avoid “avoidable errors” capable of creating divisions within the APC, added that, “Our appeal today is simple, sincere and patriotic: let the right things be done”.
The leaders noted that Kwara South occupies a strategic position in the political structure of the state, having 83 out of the 193 wards in Kwara State and seven out of the 16 local government areas.
They declared their support for former Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Dr Muheebat Adenike Dankaka, describing her as the preferred candidate for the APC senatorial ticket in the district.
According to the group, Dankaka remains a “trusted and tested” politician whose record in public service has distinguished her among other aspirants.
“We collectively as members of Kwara South Senatorial District raise our voices to make it known that Dr Muheebat Adenike Dankaka is the preferred candidate for the Senate in our district,” the group said.
“She is a trusted and tested woman. Her antecedents are top-notch.”
The APC leaders also commended Dankaka’s performance during her tenure as Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, saying she demonstrated commitment to the development of Kwara South and concern for the welfare of the people.
The group took a swipe at some unnamed aspirants seeking elective positions despite what it described as their poor performance in previous public offices.
“We begin to wonder how people with no bearing and compassion for our children can have the audacity to want to contest for elective positions again after their abysmal failure in previous responsibilities,” they added.
The stakeholders also referenced the position of the APC national leadership on the conduct of primaries, insisting that direct primaries should be adopted where there is no consensus candidate.
According to them, adherence to democratic procedures would strengthen internal party democracy and guarantee fairness for all aspirants involved in the contest.
