Indigenes of Isanlu Isin in the Isin local government area of Kwara state living abroad under the aegis of the Isanlu Isin Diaspora Community have appealed to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state to prioritise the completion of critical infrastructure projects in their hometown.
In an open letter, the people expressed gratitude for the governor’s strides in improving the state’s infrastructure but raised concerns about the prolonged neglect of the Oke Onigbin-Isanlu Isin road and the dilapidated general hospital serving the Isin local government area.
According to the letter, signed by prominent members of the diaspora community, Chief Joshua Olabisi Oloyede, Asiwaju of Isinland in the United Kingdom, and Engineer Dapo Owolabi from the USA, the 11-kilometre road, initially started during the administration of the late Governor Mohammed Lawal, was later included in projects to be funded through the Infrastructure Development Fund Kwara (IF-K). “Despite being re-awarded, the project remains incomplete.”.
“Six years ago, Your Excellency pledged to complete unfinished projects. Yet, this critical infrastructure has been abandoned, isolating our town and stalling development,” the letter stated.
The diasporans also said that an approved road project under the governor’s administration initially planned to run through Isanlu Isin to Owa Kajola, was redirected to another route, alleging that it further marginalised the community.
In addition to the road, the letter highlighted the deteriorating state of the general hospital in the Isin LGA.
“This hospital, built through the collective effort of our forefathers, is now dilapidated, leaving our people without adequate healthcare,” they said.
The letter also appealed for forgiveness for any perceived grievances and urged the governor to honour his commitment to completing projects initiated by past administrations.
“As a parting gift to our people, we humbly beg Your Excellency to prioritise these projects. This would reaffirm your commitment to the welfare of all citizens,” the people said.
