Kwara State Education Commissioner, Hajia Sa’adatu Moddibo Kawu, commended NGO, Bundies Care Support Initiative for partnering with UNESCO to engage students with special needs on International Good Deeds Day.
Hajia Kawu gave this commendation during an event hosted by the Bundies Care Support initiative to mark the 2024 Good Deeds Day celebration.
The Commissioner noted that projects by UNESCO have supplemented the state government’s investments in schools across Kwara State, particularly in providing access to quality and inclusive education in technical, vocational, and entrepreneurship fields, along with fostering conducive learning environments.
The Bundies Care Support initiative, Kwara State chapter, celebration of Good Deeds Day was in collaboration with the state government’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Development, partnered with UNESCO.
The event, hosted by Bundies Care Support Initiative, engaged students from Apata Yakuba School for special needs in Ilorin to commemorate the occasion.
Mrs Funmilayo Adefila Osiegbu stressed the importance of citizens contributing to and complementing government efforts, particularly advocating for nationwide avenues for schools with special needs to showcase their skills.
The Commissioner for Social Development, represented by Elder Kayode Ayanwale, thanked the Good Deeds Day Kwara State chapter for their contributions to renovating and donating to the skill acquisition centre of the school for special needs, urging sustained support beyond one-time activities.
Dr. Lateef Idowu, UNESCO’s Secretary, represented by Mrs. Bukola Akin, commended the organizers of Good Deeds Day for their commendable efforts.
Mrs. Eunice Abidoye, Director of School Services, representing the Ministry of Education, shed light on the challenges faced by schools for special needs and advocated for improvements.
The renovated centre was officially commissioned by Elder Ayandele, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Social Development, accompanied by other directors and representatives from Bundies Care Support Initiative.
Good Deeds Day, a global initiative uniting people from over 100 countries, aims to promote acts of kindness for the betterment of humanity. Since its inception in 2007, millions of individuals, communities, organizations, and businesses have voluntarily participated, echoing the vision of its founder, Shari Arison from Israel, who believes in the transformative power of doing good and fostering positivity in society.
