The Wudil Cattle Market in Kano has been revealed to be a massive hub for livestock trade, generating around N50 billion in transactions every week.
According to the acting chairman of the market, Alhaji Ahmad Dauda, the market operates every Friday through Saturday, with over 3 million cows sold weekly.
Cattle from various states, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Plateau, Taraba, Sokoto, Borno, and Yobe, are brought to the market for sale.
Dauda commended the Kano State Government for providing some facilities, including drains, solar lighting, and toilets.
However, he appealed for improved drainage to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season and effective security measures to protect the market from theft.
The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has invested N350 million in upgrading the market’s infrastructure.
The project aims to improve the market’s operations and has assured that more drainage works will be carried out before its completion in June 2025.
The Wudil Cattle Market is not only the largest in Kano but also one of the biggest in Northern Nigeria, playing a significant role in the country’s livestock trade.
