The Kano State Government has announced plans to vaccinate over 3.2 million children in the March 2026 polio immunisation exercise as part of efforts to eliminate the virus across the state.

The State Immunisation Officer, Hajiya Sa’adatu Ibrahim, disclosed this during a one-day media dialogue on sensitisation and mobilisation for the March 2026 State National Immunisation Plus Days (SNIPDs) campaign.

Represented by Pharmacist Habu Muhammad Takai, Ibrahim said the eight-day exercise would commence on Thursday, March 26, with a “Days of Birth” (DOB) strategy targeting children aged 0–15 months in 35 local government areas.

She explained that the campaign would be followed by a four-day house-to-house vaccination exercise covering children aged 0–59 months across all 44 local government areas of the state. The remaining two days, she added, would be used for mop-up activities to ensure full coverage.

According to her, vaccines have already been distributed to all 44 local government areas ahead of the official flag-off scheduled for Saturday, March 28.

Earlier, the State Mobilisation Officer, Malam Rabi’u Ibrahim, said the media dialogue was convened to engage stakeholders on campaign strategies and clarify their roles in achieving the target.

He called on parents and caregivers to cooperate with health officials by presenting eligible children for vaccination, warning that refusal could expose children and communities to the risk of polio infection.

“When parents reject the vaccine, they expose not only their children but also the wider community and the state to continued cases of polio,” he said.

The meeting was attended by journalists, social media influencers, and U-Report members, with discussions focusing on strategies to ensure the success of the immunisation campaign across the state.
