The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving electricity supply and promoting industrial development through enhanced private sector participation in the power sector.

The Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Gaddafi Sani Shehu, gave the assurance during a stakeholder meeting with investors from Slash Power and representatives of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Dakata quarters of Kano.

The meeting focused on strategies to optimise power distribution, with the aim of boosting industrial growth, increasing productivity and supporting economic development among SMEs across the state.

Shehu, who chaired the meeting, emphasised the government’s resolve to strengthen energy infrastructure and create a favourable environment for private investment in power generation and distribution.

He noted that a reliable electricity supply remains critical to economic growth and the sustainability of industries and businesses.

“We are committed to creating an enabling environment for investors and ensuring that power supply meets the growing needs of our industries and communities,” the commissioner said.

Discussions at the meeting also explored potential collaborations between private power producers and local businesses, particularly in renewable energy projects, grid expansion and improved electricity supply to industries, businesses and households.

Stakeholders at the meeting stressed the importance of sustained partnership among government agencies, investors and business owners in achieving long-term energy solutions.

The meeting ended with a consensus on strengthening collaboration to ensure a sustainable power supply and stimulate economic growth in Kano State.
