I wish to call the attention of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kaduna State chapter, to the plight of retired teachers. The union should come to the aid of retired teachers who are yet to collect their “end well” contributions.
In the past, under the scheme, retirees found it easy to access and collect their savings, together with the interest, within a period of less than two months.
Now, it is a different story as the retired teachers find it difficult to get what they contributed legitimately.Sadly, the NUT has failed to inform the affected beneficiaries what caused the sudden change or delay.
“End-well scheme”is a monthly contribution introduced by the NUT to enhance the welfare of Nigerian teachers. Under it, members contribute certain amounts of money from their salaries.
The accrued funds are invested and profit from the investment shared among the members of staff at the end of the service years.
The purpose of the programme targeted at retirees and those that have voluntarily resigned from service has been defeated due to alleged poor leadership.
The delayed payment has caused untold hardship to the retirees who are grappling with today’s economic realities.
We are appealling to the union to hasten the payment of the long-awaited dues to the retirees to ease their hardship.
