The Plateau State chapter of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has strongly condemned the recent resurgence of violence in Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs, which has tragically claimed many lives, including the lives of four innocent travellers yesterday.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, the Emir of Wase His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammadu Sambo II, the JNI, said the act was a painful reminder of the urgent need to address insecurity and protect the sanctity of human life, regardless of identity or background.

According to him, such acts of brutality not only deepen divisions but also threaten the fragile peace and coexistence that communities in Plateau State have long strived to maintain, adding that no grievance or circumstance can justify the taking of innocent lives.

He called on the government at all levels, as well as security agencies, to act swiftly and decisively to address the situation.

“There must be proactive and sustained measures to prevent further violence, ensure the safety of travellers and residents and bring perpetrators to justice.

“Intelligence gathering, rapid response mechanisms and community engagement must be strengthened to forestall future occurrences.”

The JNI chairman also urged community and religious leaders, as well as the citizens, to remain calm and resist the urge for retaliation, stressing that peace, dialogue and mutual understanding remain the only viable path toward lasting stability.
