The Founder, Creato Urban, Odion Aleobua, has decried that creative talents are gradually looking beyond the shores of Nigeria to practise their trade, a development, he stated, had further contributed to the sparse number of creative professionals in the industry.
Aleobua, who stated this in an interaction with the media during the company’s end-of-the-year event in Lagos, added that agencies are presently finding it difficult getting capable creative hands, since the talented ones are travelling abroad.
“If you see what has come out as advertising, communication strategy and campaigns over the last three years, they are nothing to write home about. It shows we don’t have enough talents for this creative stuff again.
“Japa has taken our best hands. We no longer have enough creative talents. Go and ask anybody running an agency, they are finding it difficult to get creative people. So, we have a creative problem, and we do not know how bad it is. It is very bad,” he added.
Aleobua also used the opportunity of the event to explain the rechristening of the agency’s name from Modion Communications to Creato Urban, as part of the activities aimed at marking the agency’s ten years of doing business in Nigeria.
He added that the new name was meant to reposition the agency as a global player in an increasingly digitised sector.
On the implementation of the new tax law, expected to commence on January 1, next year, the Creato Urban boss dismissed fears making the rounds that the implementation of that law would add to the financial burden of practitioners in the industry.
According to him, what the industry would be paying would be minimal and reasonable, compared with other sectors of the economy.
