The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILoT) and the chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr Michael Tidi, have condemned the alleged murder of the founder of the popular Warri Choral Society (WCS), Pa. Joe Ayomike and his wife, Chinyere.
The duo’s decomposing corpses were found in one of the rooms, on Monday morning, at their GRA residence located near Nana College in Warri.
ILoT and Dr Tidi, in separate statements, therefore have demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged murder of the couple.
Chairman of ILoT, Chief Edward Ekpoko, in his statement, said: “I received the news with shock. The elder brother was our Chairman. The late Pa Joseph had been relating with us on matters that affect the Itsekiri nation. I knew him at his Choral concert.
“The death was painful. He just celebrated his 86th birthday about a week ago. He would be greatly missed by all. We urge the Police to get to the root of the death.”
Tidi, on his part, expressed shock over the alleged gruesome murder of Pa Ayomike and his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Chinyere Shirley Ayomike.
The Warri South chairman, in a press statement through his Special Assistant on Media, Francis Sadhere, said the news of the alleged murder of Pa Ayomike and his wife at their Warri GRA residence, was devastating.
He said as the Chief Security Officer of the council, he would do everything within his powers to unravel the killers of Pa Ayomike and his wife, charging all the security agencies in the council to fish out the alleged killers of Pa Ayomike and his wife and bring them to book.
“The gruesome murder of Pa Joe Ayomike and his wife is a huge blow. I want to assure you that as the Chief Security officer of Warri South council area.
“We are going to do all within our power to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to book. We will not rest until the killers are brought to book.
“On behalf of my family and the good people of Warri South Local Government Area, we condole with the Ayomike family and the entire Itsekiri nation at this difficult period,” he noted.
Meanwhile, there are feelers as of Monday evening that Pa. Joe Ayomike and his wife, whose bodies were discovered on the morning of Monday, June 28, were suspiciously murdered in cold blood either Friday or Saturday.
A further independent investigation by our correspondent revealed that the couple, after being shot dead, were mutilated with machetes by their assailants, just as they also carted away valuables including two exotic cars belonging to the late couple.
After carrying out their dastardly act on the 86-year-old Ayomike, who’s an ardent lover and promoter of classic music and his wife, it was gathered that the suspected marauders locked the deceased in one of their rooms and bolted away with the valuables.
Pa Ayomike’s wife, Dr. (Mrs) Chinyere Shirley Ayomike, was a senior lecturer in the music department at the Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, owned by the state government.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, who, on Tuesday told our correspondent that the demise of the couple was not a natural one, adding that police detectives were already investigating the incident just as the autopsy is being carried out on them.
