Background
I hail from Ondo town from Ondo State. I am a graduate of Chemistry from (OAU). I am a musician. I’ve being into music right from tender age but, professionally, I started 2012 when I got signed to GberaTinrin Studios.
Musical influences?
Like I said earlier, I’ve being into music since I was about the age of seven, being part of different musical groups, to mention few; Anointed three, Motivators and I also came first at Glo campus tour in music completion while I was an undergraduate. I also took part in the MTN sponsored Project fame West Africa but only made it up to the selection stage. I was also a backup artiste for to the likes of Skuki, J’rule, Goke Bajowa and many others. I was also part of a project called ‘Virus da mixtape’ which involved various artists from Ibadan and the then Kentro world guys. I have also featured the likes of Reminisce, Vector and worked with likes of Young John, Sarz, Mr Magic, St Buster Keyz and many others.
What are the challenges you’ve encountered?
In this life, no pain no gain, one of the major challenges I’ve encountered in my musical journey has being in the area of finances; paying for studio sessions, promoting and pushing my music on air, and also maintaining man power. Another challenge is acceptance; Nigerians celebrate mediocrity, we know those who are doing good and quality music yet, we settle down for those with average or no degree of skill and talent. Another challenge is maintaining your status quo and staying relevant.
How do you classify your music?
For me, I define music as a language of the soul that gives expression to the mind, body and the environment. I call my music ‘conscious’, which speaks to the mind of my listeners, but with rich touch of Afrobeat.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I will say ‘Ori lo mo ibi ese gbe n re’. I believe with the help of God and my team I will be in the place of greatness. My music will be everywhere.
Have you released any album or do you have any project you are working on presently. Since I was signed to GberaTinrin studios it has being a busy time for me. If I am not mistaken, I have over eighteen singles on air with four musical videos. In the year 2015, I released an EP titled ‘Igboro The EP’ with songs like ‘Dundu’ featuring Reminisce, ‘Fever’ featuring Big Carter on it, ‘Eyi ga’, ‘Na E’, which happen to be my first song with GberaTinrin studios, ‘Igboro’ featuring Vector. And between 2016 and 2018, I have dropped different songs from ‘Bad market’, ‘Kan ma so’, ‘My money’, ‘Mr Lagbaja’, ‘EgunNla’, ‘Moraye’ to mention few. I believe my album is long over due. The album is a beautiful one with seventeen quality songs, for example, ‘Mr Lagbaja’ addresses societal vices, ‘Moraye’ talks about deception, ‘Bebe idi’ talks about the beauty of African woman and many other songs.
What advise do you have for the younger generation of musicians?
My advice to the younger ones is to stay positive, believe in themselves, be consistent in whatever they do, have endurance, avoid any get rich quick schemes.
As an artiste, how do intend to influence positively, the lives of Nigerian youths with your music?
My music has said it all, with it, I am going to sensitise people positively on job creation as well as financial independence.
The content of your music tends towards elevating and promoting our indigenous culture, why did you decide to toe this line of music?
I decided to carve a niche for myself because of my personal experiences in life and my background. Yoruba is a rich language with different ways of expressing one’s self. I realised that I understood Yoruba deeply, so I decided to infuse it in my music.
You have a beautiful vocal texture, what personal things do you do to maintain it?
My voice beautiful ke (laughs). First, I don’t shout, I don’t drink cold water and I avoid excess oil intake.
