Anambra State branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has donated some free medical equipment to six Primary Health Care Centre (PHCs), in the State.
The six Health Centres are; Isuofia PHC in Aguata Council Area, Agulu PHC in Anoacha Council Area, Nkpor PHC in Idemili Council Area, Abagana PHC in Njikoka Council Area and Agulu-Awka PHC in Awka South Council Area of the state.
Tribune Online gathered that the donated items includes; Gloves, Adhesive tapes, Extractors, GauzeBandages, Syringes, Needles, Cannulas, SuctionTube, MeasuringTapes, Clynical and Digital Thermometer, StainlessBowl, KidneyStainless Basin, Plastic Draw sheet, Apron, Forceps, Scalpel Handle Scissors, Shygomanometer, Stethoscope, Tourniquetlatex rubber and others.
In his speech, during the donation, at the Agulu-Awka Community Primary Health Care Centre- Umuogbu Village in Awka South Local Government Area, on Friday, the State Chairman of Red Cross, Professor Emeka Kachy, said the gesture was in line with the mandate of the Red Cross Society worldwide which is the alleviation of human sufferings anywhere.
He said the donations were to complement efforts of the Anambra State government toward enhancing the capacity of the healthcare centre which was the health facilities closest to the people in the rural areas.
It is part of the four core programmes of the society which include healthcare, disaster management, promotion of humanitarian principles and values as well as organisational development.
“The Red Cross in Anambra thought it wise to add value by alleviating the sufferings of the rural people through the PHC facilities.
According to Prof. Kachy, Red Cross will continue to offer its humanitarian services to the less privileged ones on yearly basis, so long the Organisation exist.
I can tell you that Anambra state has the best Health Care System across the federation. This is as a result of the state government collaboration with the Nigeria Red Cross Society, he explained.
In his part, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Chief Leo Nwoba, while expressing gratitude on behalf of the community and the Council in general over the gesture, assure the Society of his continued support.
The Matron of the Agulu-Awka Primary Health Care Centre, Umuogbu Village Awka, Mrs Grace Nwobu, who also appreciate the donation, promised to make use of items judiciously for the needy.
“The Red Cross team was led by the Branch Secretary, Engr. Kingsley Okoye, and the Branch Health Coordinator, Mrs Constacia Amagba, the Branch Communication Officer, Mr Fedelix Ikeji, among other members.
Tribune Online also learnt that the International Human Rights Day is designed by the United Nations General Assembly to be held on the tenth of December every year. Human Rights Day inspires everyone to speak up and take action to end discrimination in all forms whenever and wherever it happens.
