The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, has promised to improve staff welfare and infrastructure at the Imo State NPC office to ensure the effective discharge of duties.
Yusuf gave the assurance during a working visit to the Imo State NPC office in Owerri on Thursday.
He said his visit to Imo was part of a nationwide engagement tour aimed at strengthening staff welfare and stakeholder relations, as well as creating awareness about the Commission’s activities.
Dr. Yusuf, who was accompanied by the Director-General of the Commission, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun, the Director of the Public Affairs Department, Nma Alhaji Shehu, among other senior officials, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing his 7-Point Agenda, which he said has gained support within and outside the Commission.
While assuring employees that welfare remains his top priority, he explained that his visit to Imo State underscored the agenda’s focus on staff welfare, stakeholder engagement, and institutional strengthening.
He expressed appreciation to the staff for their dedication and urged them to continue supporting the Commission’s leadership.
He said: “Let me assure you that staff welfare is at the heart of our mandate. I count on your prayers and cooperation as we work to fulfill the goals we have set for ourselves.”

On the deplorable condition of the Commission’s office building in Owerri, Dr. Yusuf pledged to intervene, assuring that funds would be sourced to renovate and improve the facility.
The Chairman commended Prof. Uba Nnabue for his leadership and cordial relationship with staff, which he noted was evident in the reception given during the visit. He also expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to his delegation despite the short notice.
Welcoming the NPC National Chairman to Imo, the Federal Commissioner representing Imo State, Prof. Uba Nnabue, his counterpart from Enugu State, Hon. Ejike Ezeh, and top management staff of the Imo State office thanked the Chairman and his team for the visit.
He noted that it was the first time in more than 15 years that a sitting NPC Chairman had visited the Imo State office, describing the visit as a morale booster for staff, and pledged the office’s full commitment to the Chairman’s 7-Point Agenda.
The Federal Commissioner also expressed appreciation to the Commission for enabling the Imo office to acquire its own property, transforming it from a tenant to a landlord.
He, however, drew the National Chairman’s attention to the urgent need for repairs due to a leaking roof that had damaged some office equipment, calling for his intervention.
Prof. Nnabue also reported the successful completion of the 2025 Mini-NDHS in Imo State, emphasising that the exercise was conducted without any incidents of injury or loss of life.
In his remarks, the Director-General, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun, announced that the Commission would next month issue a circular for the full implementation of digital birth and death registration across all states of the federation, in line with its modernisation agenda.
