The spokesman of the senate, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, has revealed that his victory at the election petition tribunal was a testament to the mandate freely given to him by voters in Ekiti South senatorial district.
The tribunal sitting in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, had on Monday dismissed the petition of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Biodun Olujimi, challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator in the February 25 general election.
The lawmaker, who spoke with Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, commended the judiciary for upholding his success at the poll, adding that the election was free and credible, reflecting the majority wish of the electorate.
While recognizing the right of the PDP candidate to approach the tribunal, the chairman of the senate committee on media and publicity said he would continue to accord her respect for her contributions to the zone over the years.
Adaramodu assured the people that he would be more committed to the welfare and development of the people in the state’s southern district as he did in the House of Representatives, with life-impacting laws and programmes.
According to him, “ The judiciary has done its job. The issue is that going to the tribunal is part of the electoral process when we look at the Electoral Act 2022 and when you are dissatisfied with the results of an election.
“ My opponent, who is my sister, went to court after the election, and I have no issue with that. The tribunal verdict is a fair judgment because it was obvious that I won when you look at the results from the six local government areas in Ekiti South senatorial district.
“ I won all the six council areas overwhelmingly, and the difference between my scores and my opponents was huge, and I believe that verdict is good and excellent enough.
“ The people voted for me in their large numbers because they know I have served them in the House of Representatives, where I touched every town and village in the federal constituency, and there were no promises I made that I did not fulfill.
“ I commend the judiciary for the job well done, and I want to assure my people that I will not disappoint them in the National Assembly. We will work and offer them quality and responsive representation.”
