THERE is a school of thought and many people that now put Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba secession advocate in the same position as the holy prophet; they brazenly refer to him as a prophet like prophet Muhammad (SAW). This is not only blasphemous; it is also a sacrilegious statement and a big insult to the entire Muslim communities across the globe.
Comparing the tribulations of the Yoruba revolutionist, Sunday Igboho to the plight suffered by our beloved prophet shows that ignorance runs high among the people. If they do not know how things need to be put, they should ask those that know. It is wrong to tarnish the image of the holy prophet by comparing Sunday Igboho to him; especially at this moment when the country is facing serious challenges and the Muslim communities are still battling with the Abduljabbar issue trying to bury it, then the media platform should have handled the story with professionalism.
It is normal for Muslims to feel offended, Sunday Igboho is a man declared wanted by his country for allegedly trying to cause war; it is really pathetic and terrible for any individual or group to describe him with any religion not to talk of comparing him to the most beloved man on earth.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW), a person who preached unity, peace and harmony among the residents of Mecca, including the non-Muslims, is being compared to a secessionist leader? A person who brought humanity and strongly opposed bigotry and hatred is being compared to a group leader accused of trying to tear his country apart.
Muhammad treated even the kafiruun with fairness, justice and equity. For Afenifere, I found their statement biased, untruthful and filled with prejudice.
But the content would not have been that ugly if the news platform had done the needful, considering the ethics of the profession.
Every Muslim will find the comparison very hurting and disrespectful. It should be retracted and apology needs to be tendered.
