THE Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Wednesday, said Nigerians were in the best position to make their conclusion on what happened between him and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, at a public function in Lagos on Tuesday.
The Ooni, reacting through his Director, Media and Public Affairs, Mr Moses Olafare, said: “The issue is already a matter before the court of public opinion. Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora have continued to comment on it and everybody knows where the pendulum swings in terms of people’s opinion.”
In the 27 seconds video, the Ooni had approached the already seated Oba Akiolu to greet him but Akiolu responded with a raised right hand and looked away while the Ooni quietly went to the sit beside the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe.
In further reaction to the issue, Oba Ogunwusi said he would not allow any kind of distraction from his peace and unity agenda among traditional rulers in Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.
The social media had gone agog, on Wednesday, with Nigerians reacting to the viral video clip.
Consternation and condemnations were dominant in the comments of Nigerians across Twitter, Facebook, blogs, describing the gesture of Oba Akiolu as unnecessary.
