The weekend has come and gone, and it’s time to return to the hustle. Mondays don’t bring too much thrill for most people, and rightfully so because of the responsibilities it connotes.
The Monday blues is that feeling of dread of going to work and starting your workweek. You may experience the Monday morning blues because you don’t want the weekend to end, don’t feel excited about the work or feel overwhelmed by workplace responsibilities. It’s important to beat the Monday blues to continue operating positively and maintain productivity.
The Monday blues can affect the entire workweek and your feelings about your job. Here are a few tips to help the transition to work mode.
Do what makes you happy:
It’s important to spend the weekend doing something that makes you happy. This can include hiking, reading a book, having a movie marathon, cooking for your family or any number of activities
Prepare for the week
Preparing everything you’ll need for the week during the weekend helps you reduce the week’s stress. By completing minor tasks before the week starts, you ease the burden of entering the workweek and sometimes look forward to it.
Get enough sleep
You need sleep to give you the energy to take on the week. Cutting down on sleep time will negatively impact your outlook on the week and, as a result, reduce your productivity in the workplace. Get a solid night’s sleep, especially on Sunday evening, so you don’t start your workweek exhausted and unfocused.
Stay healthy
How much effort you put into your hygiene can directly influence your disposition on the week, as getting sick before the week begins will make it harder to overcome the Monday blues.
Make a to-do list
A to-do list can be a very influential motivator for eliminating the Monday blues. Physically itemising a series of tasks to be completed can shape and direct your efforts in the week. Having a sense of direction during the week reduces your struggles and makes it easier to get started.
Exercise
Physical workouts are great because they don’t just go a long way in making you look better but also exercise your body with the energy you’ll need to go through the day.
Pick out an outfit that will motivate you
Studies have shown that external items can greatly influence your mood and motivation. For instance, picking an outfit that lifts your mood or perception of yourself helps you feel good generally about the day.
Get a good breakfast
What you put in your body influences your mood and energy the most. Starting the week with a balanced breakfast will give you enough energy to tackle tasks at work.
