Inspirational singer, Tosin Matins, whose new work, Memories, is currently making waves, says it is a special and emotional song anyone could relate with.
Recalling how he derived the inspiration for Memories, Martins said: “I was invited to the burial service of the late Lika of Ijebu Ife, Yeyeluwa Oguntayo. My elder brother, Mr Dele Martins, who is married to one of the daughters of the late Yeyeluwa, his wife and her siblings asked if I could do a song in her honour and memory.
“Thoughts of the loss of my late sister and daughter formed a ready ground. Words came and melodies followed and the song came. I wanted it to be what I could share with the world at large and particularly, those who needed a song to help them through loss. Even more, I saw the value of memories and how it serves us beyond the here and now. I reached out to Wole Oni a producer and friend of many years and together we were able to create the music entitled: Memories, he stated.
Matins, however, expressed confidence that he still had a large and considerable audience for his music since his breakthrough with his first song Olo Mi, which is still a favourite for millions across the world, “The truth of this is evident. The subject is also one that affects everyone. We all have to deal with a loss; we all have to leave a legacy and memories; very good ones are the best legacy,” he stated.
Contrary to the insinuations that the Olo Mi crooner had kept a low profile with his music career, Martins said he was still active in the industry.
He added: “I never felt I left or took a break. For me, I prefer the music leading the timing of appearance. When the songs come, I record and put them out. Otherwise, I’m performing at events, doing concerts and travelling with the music. I’ve also said the media needs to help put light on the efforts for people know. Memories is the second single of what would be the fifth record of mine. So, I’m here; I never left and I don’t intend to leave.”
