The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has recounted a near-death experience he had seven years ago during an evangelism programme, attributing the ordeal to poor road conditions.
Speaking during the church’s annual Special Holy Ghost Service, themed “Joy Unspeakable,” held on Friday, Pastor Adeboye shared how his health deteriorated so badly that he was confined to a sick bed on Christmas Day for the first time in his life.
He narrated how he fell ill and collapsed in Ilesa, Osun State, and was too weak to make the journey by road. A helicopter was subsequently chartered to airlift him to the RCCG Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
However, he revealed that some miscreants attempted to obstruct the helicopter’s takeoff and even damaged one of its windows.
He said, “Because the roads were very bad, my body couldn’t take it anymore. So it broke down completely. For the first time in my life, I spent Christmas Day in bed.

“The devil was sure he had gotten me at last. I broke down completely in Ilesa. To get me back to camp, we had to charter a helicopter because I was so down that if I had traveled by road, definitely between Ilesa and here (camp), I would have died.
“So we chartered a helicopter, and then some area boys decided that the helicopter would not take off. I managed to get in but clung to the helicopter until one of the windows was torn, but somehow I managed to get to the camp.
“I had an assurance that if only I could get to the camp, I knew I would recover. Seven years later, I am still here!”
