A housewife, Mrs Ramatu Shehu, 30, on Thursday sued her husband Ahmad Shu’aibu, at a Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, for divorce.
Ramatu told the court that her husband, a professional footballer, had abandoned her and their two children for three months with no food, medical attention and shelter.
But Ahmad, a striker with Jazeerat Al-Feel Sporting Club in Sudan, denied the charges preferred against him.

He told the court that he rented an apartment for the plaintiff and their children, but she refused to stay there.
“When I left for Sudan, I heard she also left the house a few days after and rented another apartment close to her parents’ house.
“When I came back, I requested the landlord to refund my money, he paid me half, claiming that my wife had already stayed in the house and left without any reason,’’ the estranged husband said.
The defendant, however, added that he loved his wife and would not want the court to dissolve their marriage.
The judge, Malam Musa Sa’ad-Goma, ordered the couple to come along with their parents to court on March 27.
