THE beginning of every new year brings with it a flurry of resolutions everyone resolves to be better, firms intend to close the gap on their competitors and open up new channels. The new year has a vibe to it and 2020 is no different. It might even be seen as a little more different since it is the beginning of a brand-new decade.
The same way you have made resolutions for your finance, your health should not be left out. What should you include in your health resolutions for the new year? Consider the following for inclusion in your resolutions:
Sleep more
We live in a fast-paced world and only a few people are getting enough sleep. The odds are actually high that you are not getting the hours of sleep you need. How about you decide this new year to spend a few extra hours in bed. Cut back on a few frivolous activities and you will go to bed earlier. All it takes is cutting a few excesses and you will be getting more sleep.
Move about a bit more
It is not unusual to plan a radical change to workout routines when the new year moves closer, we all know it doesn’t work out. You should instead focus on making subtle changes like taking a 10-minute extra jog each time you are out at the gym. Just move about a little more and your heart will thank you for it.
Drink more water
This year, don’t wait till you are thirsty until you drink water. Just drink as much water as you can. It is important that you stay hydrated, your doctor will tell you the same. As much as possible, don’t replace water with carbonated drinks.
Limit the booze
A few drinks once in a while is fun, no doubt but then, you have to cut on the booze. You have to reduce the amount of alcohol you get into your system. Excessive alcohol intake has been associated with problems such as depression, memory loss, seizures, liver and heart disease, stroke, hypertension, and even some cancers.
Pay attention to your mental health
Your mental health is of importance and you have to pay particular attention to your mental health. Know your triggers and avoid them. You should do everything possible to remain sane. 2020 is the year to seek help with your mental health.
Watch your diet
We are what we eat, there is no bigger fact than this. In the new year, you must be intentional about what you eat and how you eat it. Focus on eating more of leafy vegetables and fruits. Pack up the nutrients and you will be better for it.
Bulk up on breakfast
How often have you gone through 2019 without eating breakfast? You should consciously change that in the new year. You should eat breakfast more often and don’t just do cereals and quick fixes, feed more on balanced diet and whole meals. Pack as much good food as you can into breakfast and get the day started on the right note.
Reduce your use of social media
Social media is very addictive, it affects several other areas of your life. It limits how much time you have to spend with your family and friends. It also affects your mental health and that is why you have to reduce your use of social media, instead you should be spending more time with real, actual people.
Practise self-care
There are times when you just need to take out time and care for your own self. Go out and watch a movie, take a really long drive to nowhere or take a long, hot shower. You can also decide to pamper yourself and have your favourite flavour of ice cream. Self-care is all about doing yourself a little good and living fine.
Go for regular check- up
Nigerians generally loathe medical check-up. That should change in the new year. You should get yourself checked-up frequently, that is the only way to know if you are healthy. As much as possible, get yourself checked, run as many tests as possible. Keep in touch with your medical experts and ensure you are fit.
Stop smoking
To stop smoking is a very cool new year health resolution, not only will it help your health, it will also help you bond with others better. Think about a few bucks it will save too. The detrimental effects of smoking are well established, and there’s no excuse for holding on to this smelly, expensive, and simply bad habit. It will be hard to stop but give it your best shot.
Which of these resolutions are you adding to your list? Let’s make the new year better and get our health to the next level.
