Hardship: Shomolu local govt to distribute N50,000 each to 1,000 people

Executive Chairman of Shomolu Local Government, Lagos State, Hon. Abdulhammed Salawu, has disclosed readiness to dole out N50,000 each to 1,000 people in the locale in a bid to cushion the effect of the current economic crisis.

While speaking exclusively with Tribune Online on Monday in Lagos, the Chairman said the palliatives would commence in a few weeks.

Explaining the gesture, Abdulhammed said it is the responsibility of the government to see to the needs of the people to make life a living for them. 

According to him, “We all know that most have been affected by the issues of foreign exchange crisis, popularly known as Dollar, and if care is not taken, people are being forced out of what they do for their means of livelihood.

Salawu said that the local government is the closest tier of government to the people; hence, listening to their voices by providing some sort of succour.

He noted that they have failed as a representative government if they cannot listen to the yearnings of the people in their locale.

The Chairman, therefore, enjoined everyone in the locality to remain law-abiding and contribute their quota to the development of the local government and Lagos state.
