As part of effort to support Sokoto State government in tackling insecurity and unemployment among youths in the state, a group, Sokoto Professionals Network, has organised a free training for 50 youths on solar power initiative in the state.
The programme, which is in conjunction with the A.Y Global Integrated Consult, is aimed at training 50 youths across the 23 local government areas of the state on solar photovoltaic installation and maintenance.
Speaking at the event, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, urged the beneficiaries of the initiative to take advantage of the training to reduce unemployment and create more positive changes in the state.
Represented by Alhaji Sani Umar Jabi, the District Head of Gagi in Sokoto, the Sultan said such initiative will reduce insecurity in the state.
“The insecurity being witness across the country today with the North-West zone now the worst hit, is being caused majorly by unemployment among the youth
“I, therefore, commend the initiative of this programme for supporting the government in creating a better tomorrow for the youth of the state,” he said.
He urged them not to rest on their oars and continue to do more in support of the youth in the state
The chairman of the programme, Faruk Yusuf Yabo, in his remarks, said the beneficiaries, apart from getting employment, will also improve the poverty index rate of the state.
Yabo, who is a permanent secretary, Special Duties, Office of Head of Service of the Federation, said the programme will also reduce insecurity in the state whereby more youths will be engaged in productive ventures.
Also speaking, the coordinator of Sokoto Network Initiatives, Zayyanu Tambari Yabo, said the beneficiaries were drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state.
While calling on them to take the training very serious, he warned that whoever is found wanting during the programme, will be sanctioned.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser on Rural Electrification to the state governor, Mustapha Muhammad, said the objective and vision of the network is in line with part of nine point agenda of the state governor.
He said the current administration in the state is committed to engaging more youths so as to reduce the rate of unemployment and insecurity and assured that the current administration in the state will continue to give necessary support and providing enabling environment for whoever is interested in supporting youths’ engagement in the state.
